Soul Of The Shoe

from the soul of the schu...                                                                                                             Why What? Est deus in nobis, agitante calescimus in illo." -Ovid There is a god within me,he stirs and lo! i feel his fire!

I've been developing my outer artist since ?th grade but not until my interdisciplinary work at SAIC did I receive any formal training in art, so the development of “continuity” and “series” is new to my repertoire. Which is why, while perusing my site, you’ll see a variety of mediums and styles. In terms of “representing my work” I chose to give you a broad palette of my aesthetic range, but am conscious of the need to focus. Overwhelmingly my work (w/the exception of my photography) is abstract, but after my time at SAIC I began to develop a series of paintings tied to my relationship with California- those pieces are in development and because of my slow hand at realism take a long time to complete. Not to mention my varied interests tend to throw one over for the other from time to time.

Thematically, I'm most interested in a whole thesaurus of words such as: abandoned, corrosive, disintegrated, dilapidated, rusted, antiqued, old, and worked over…, conversely I'm also invested in scarcity, simplicity, and the idea of containment...and I’m also critically interested in nature. Other words such as gesture and the dramatic might also relate to my work, and because of my theatre and writing background I will never not be melodramatic. I’m inherently interested in the minutiae of life as well, and if my writing will ever turn up on my site- which I hope it will, explores similar themes of both the natural and the denigrated.

Enjoy.  ' )..
