The scripture for the season of advent is: Isaiah 28:5-6 "In that day the Lord Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of his people. He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate."
The materials are: copper (silver-plated) wire, kenyan rolled paper beads, antique red beads, currant colored quartz, soldered bottle caps, washers, resistors, real lapis (symbolic of Christ coming/the 3beads trinity), coils, brass cross (heading toward/coming from), and sundry other.
Included in the note: "The remnant has knit together our meager best for His glorious arrival."
The reading is from: Romans 8:18-25 " I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently."
The focus of advent for me this year is the idea of the "remnant," both historically and presently. So the varied materials as well as the type all point toward that idea, to make an eclectic mix of the Kingdom as we wait for the 2nd coming, as the Israelites waited for the promise fulfilled... we groan, we double over, we wait for blessed relief. But it is hard and the waiting long. (the best fit song is below) O, come, O, come Emmanuel!
